AI told me something I didn’t want to hear (and you might need to hear it too)

Hey Reader,

Last week, I asked ChatGPT a question I’d seen from YouTuber Dan Martell:

“Tell me something incredibly special or unique you’ve noticed about me, but you think I haven’t realized about myself yet. It doesn’t have to be something positive and you don’t have to be nice to me – just truthful.”

This only works if the AI already knows you well – if you’ve been using it for a while and it’s seen how you think, work, and make decisions.

I was feeling slightly stuck. My product work had taken a back seat for weeks. I’d told myself I was fine with one module per week, but in reality, I was pushing it down the priority list while “more important” tasks took over.

Then came the answer:

“You set your standards so high that you sometimes make success harder to reach. You’re extremely systematic and detail-oriented, but sometimes you get so deep into perfecting systems that you delay action and miss chances to test early.”

I kind of knew it already – but hearing it spoken back to me was different.

It hit like a truth I couldn’t ignore. Within minutes, I was at my desk, working another two hours on the next module.

It felt like a start shot.

I decided: launch Version 1 next week. Stop waiting for perfect. Collect feedback. Improve from there.

Relief washed over me, finally knowing I was on the right track. Mixed with a little frustration about how much time I might have wasted. But that didn’t matter anymore. The energy and motivation were there, stronger than ever.

How this applies to your music production

In the studio, I already follow the same principle: I get feedback early.

Usually, once the main drop and main break are in place.

Here’s why it works:

  • Positive feedback reassures you that you’re on the right track.
  • Constructive or critical feedback shows you ideas or issues you couldn’t see yourself.

Both are valuable because they move you forward.

A few tips from my own process:

  • Early feedback can often sound more negative than it really is. Don’t take it personally.
  • Not everyone can give feedback you can use. Choose people whose opinion you trust, ideally with music experience.
  • Stay neutral when listening. The goal isn’t to defend your work, it’s to make it better.

Try this yourself!

Next time you’re producing, share your track earlier than you normally would – even if it’s just the drop and break. Ask what stands out and what feels off, write it down, and decide later what to change.

And if you’ve been using AI for a while, give it the prompt I used. You might get an answer that feels uncomfortable, but also gives you the exact push you need to take action right now.

🎙 Podcast Link

I recently joined a podcast hosted by Vin Vega a producer, DJ, and label owner with over 20 years in the music industry.

Listen here: Episode 1

In this episode, I talk about how I got into music – starting as a DJ and later moving into production. The conversation is in German, and part two will be released this Wednesday.

That’s it for now. Have a great week!

Hey Reader, Most of us live the same reality: A 9–5 job, sports, friends, family, daily stuff — and if you’re lucky, an hour here and there for music. In my case, add content creation, writing this newsletter… and a girlfriend who doesn’t enjoy music production at all. (Which means I also need to keep her entertained instead of locking myself in the studio 😉). With so much going on, it’s no wonder producers end up with the same story: Projects pile up.Loops never grow into tracks. And most...

Hey Reader, This week has been packed – and for the first time in a while, it feels like things are lining up. 🎶 Music Updates I’ve been narrowing down my dream labels to a smaller, focused list – just 5 that really match my sound. They all play a similar, summerish, Ibiza-style Tech House, groovy and percussion-heavy. That means every new track I produce can work for multiple labels at once, giving me more chances to get signed. To help me get there, I bought a sample pack from one of those...
