Hey Reader, Last year, I was producing almost every week. I’d open Ableton, load a kick, maybe a clap… That feeling? 🎯 This is how I finally broke through:Now I start every track with a system. And no, this isn't just for producers who want to release on labels. Sometimes I pick a label I’d love to release on. Either way, I choose 2–3 tracks that I really like. But I don’t build the beat first. I find the hook. What’s a hook? It’s the part that makes your track unforgettable. Think of it like buying a car: ✅ So here’s what I do:I load the full reference track into my project. I copy the part right after the intro of the reference track where the bassline comes in, where the groove is simple but no hooks have been played. And that's where I start experimenting. I open Splice or dig through my own sample library. I already know what works in the reference: I search in that direction. And usually, one sound stands out. Only after that do I build the beat: 🧠 Bonus: Already finished a few tracks? You can use your own grooves instead of reference tracks. Sample your best kick. Recycle your own energy. It’s faster – and it keeps your sound consistent. 💡 Why this works:When the hook fits the groove – and the groove already works in your reference – you’ve got a track that feels right from the start. And if the label you're aiming for uses similar hooks (vocals, synths, perc lead), there’s a much higher chance they’ll say yes to your sound. From there, it’s not about building something from scratch. You stop guessing. 🛠️ By the way…I’m building a system around this exact process. The landing page is already done. Have a great week! Hey Reader, Most of us live the same reality: A 9–5 job, sports, friends, family, daily stuff — and if you’re lucky, an hour here and there for music. In my case, add content creation, writing this newsletter… and a girlfriend who doesn’t enjoy music production at all. (Which means I also need to keep her entertained instead of locking myself in the studio 😉). With so much going on, it’s no wonder producers end up with the same story: Projects pile up.Loops never grow into tracks. And most...

Hey Reader, Last week, I asked ChatGPT a question I’d seen from YouTuber Dan Martell: “Tell me something incredibly special or unique you’ve noticed about me, but you think I haven’t realized about myself yet. It doesn’t have to be something positive and you don’t have to be nice to me – just truthful.” This only works if the AI already knows you well – if you’ve been using it for a while and it’s seen how you think, work, and make decisions. I was feeling slightly stuck. My product work had...
